Project Management Institute (PMI) will soon release a new version of PMP exam on August 31, 2011. The in-depth Role Delineation Study (RDS) conducted by PMI reveals that the role of a PMP has changed, which made it necessary to updated exam to take into account these changes.
PMI conducts RDS studies every five to seven years.
As a result of the RDS findings, PMI is changing about 30 per cent of the exam.
These changes do not affect current certification holders, as the changes are reflected in the exam and not in the credential itself.
However, if PMP credential holders allow the three-year PDU cycle and one-year grace period to expire without completing 60 PDU credits, they will have to retake the new version of the exam in order to re-establish the PMP designation.
For PMP candidates that have already passed the application process, PMI highly recommends they sit for the exam before it changes on August 31.
