The above chart shows the usage of media across the period of 10 years. Clearly their is no stopping the technology juggernaut ,as gadgets and digital screens continue to proliferate at an unprecedented level and scale. In 2013, Americans on average own four digital devices and ownership of many digital, mobile and connected devices has reached critical mass.
According to a recent 2014 Nielsen report on Usage of Digital Media shows how media consumption is US is changing Today the average American household, has HDTVs (83%), Internet-connected computers (80%) and smartphones (65%) are in a majority of households, with a near majority for digital video recorders (49%) and gaming consoles (46%).
As a result of the explosion in digital and mobile device ownership, American consumers are connected with screens throughout the day and engage with media content for more than 60 hours per week.However the good old TV remains at the center of consumer media consumption. However, increases in time-shifted viewing and streaming video through a PC or smartphone show that consumers are increasing. !
