TechWorld reports Microsoft's comments that virtualisation of desktop PCs can speed-up the process of moving users to Windows 7. The recommendation is that all customers consider desktop virtualisation ahead of moving users to the latest OS.
As reported last month, Windows 7 uptake is smashing all records. It is believed that this will be complemented by many new virtualisation deployments.
Historically, virtualization projects have been time- and cost-hungry. Now Microsoft has lowered the Windows licensing costs for virtual desktops (earlier this year) - now is the time to explore it.
Rich Reynolds, Microsoft Windows General Manager, explains: "As they move to Windows 7, we are seeing customers widely adopt the virtualisation technologies.
"This helps IT simplify deployment, migration and management of their desktop environments enabling faster service delivery, as well as centralize and secure data, and makes applications and user state available regardless of locale."
Reynolds concludes: "Leveraging these benefits can get customers to Windows 7 more quickly and easily, so we recommend all our Windows 7 customers look into how desktop virtualisation can help their migration."
