The Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is the most respected certification for project managers in the world. It demonstrates that the professional has a real life project management experience and understanding of the most widely recognised project management best practices.

The PMP cert is very well known in the industry and is highly in demand. Many organisations look for PMP certification as qualifying criteria when hiring project managers. Requirements
Before you get on your way to obtaining this cert, there are a few requirement to be allowed to take the exam: 35 contact hours of formal education in project management with either a 4 year degree + 3 years project management experience or 5 years project management experience (without degree).
The Exam The exam will cover the following 6 domains:
· Initiation
· Planning
· Executing
· Monitoring and Controlling
· Closing
· Professional and Social Responsibility
It will consist of 200 questions. 175 are scored; the other 25 are un-scored pre exam questions. All of them being multiple-choice and lasts fourhours.
Tips for difficult areas
The following topics are the ones that seem to be the most difficult for students, so here are some tips to deal with them:
Work experience vs. the exam – As you must be experienced to sit the exam many can have very different experiences over the PMBOK guidelines. It is always recommended to use the PMBOK guidelines over your own experience as it is the correct approach when taking the exam.
Risk and procurement procedures – This is one of the areas many struggle with. It is important that you become familiar with this area and how it fits in the overall project management.
Ethics – become comfortable in applying project management ethics. It can be difficult for some who are used to their own companies ethical guidelines but try and pay attention to the PMI code of ethics and code of conduct in order to pass the exam.
Preparation Hints
Before you start the course and your exam, it is recommended you read and study the Project Management Book of Knowledge (PMBOK). Become familiar with the processes, inputs, outputs, and tools and techniques. It is also recommended to read the PMI Code of Ethos and Professional Conduct. Also, try and join a study group to study for the exam. Discussing project management topics with others will help you remember the material.
