internet of things is set to herald the Renaissance of industrial revolution2.0
Internet of things is set to take off spectacular in a big in in 2017 as Industries as diverse as manufacturing, automotive, industrial, home electronics,Oil and Gas,Insurance including hardware and software have already started thinking to integrating iOT in their business operations.
Around 35% of manufacturers already use smart sensors, 10% plan to implement them within a year, and 8% plan to implement them within 3 years, according to PwC report
.
Further PWC report predicts and forecasts that around 5.4 million IoT devices will be used on oil extraction sites by 2020. The devices will primarily be internet connected sensors used to provide environmental metrics about extraction sites. Auto Industry has been among the most "innovative users of " connected things across the car industry.Connected cars are a top IoT device. The report projects that over 220 million connected cars would be driving around the world by 2020.
Military and defense would be another biggest users of iOT as spending on drones will reach $8.7 billion in 2020. In addition, 126,000 military robots will be shipped in 2020, according to Frost & Sullivan.
During the world war 2 during that pitched battle between Allied merchant ships and German U-boats, information was the key to victory. Codebreaking and aircraft from escort carriers were the sensors, feeding information into centralized command centers, where decision makers on both sides routed submarine “wolf packs” or re-routed convoys of merchantmen. Victory went to those groups that could generate and analyze more information in a timely manner and, then, adjust not just their tactical posture but their logistical supply lines, intelligence groups, and support facilities.Internet of things will play a big role in ensuring that timely information and data are present to the military which would be able to determine adequate and appropriate responses

The 5 cyber security statistics you need to know in 2017
‘Cybercrime is the greatest threat to every company in the world’ says IBM’s CEO, Ginni Rometty. If you’re already working on boosting your security – or haven’t started yet – now’s the time. Here’s five reasons why…
1. Cybercrime cost to hit £2.41 trillion a year - Juniper Research
Cybercrime is expensive. Get hit and you’ll feel it in your profits. For example, a successful DDoS attack will force your systems offline and can cost you upwards of £100,000 every hour. 2016 reported a 22% increase in cybercrime and it certainly didn’t go unnoticed in the media. Big names like Yahoo, TalkTalk, Tesco, Netflix, Sony and even the presidential election were victim to cyber-attacks.
Get EC-Council’s Certified Ethical Hacker certification to help defend against attacks.
2. Cyber security spending to exceed £815 billion by 2021 - CSO Online
Businesses continue to realise the need to spend more on cyber security products, like software and training. In 2016, over £6.5bn was spent worldwide on information security (Gartner).
Despite this growing demand for training, a 2016 government report highlights that there’s still much to be done for businesses. With just under a fifth of businesses ensuring their staff take part in cyber security training in 2016, staff and the general public are still too unaware of their responsibilities in this regard.
3. Unfilled cyber security jobs to reach 1.5 million by 2020 - (ISC)²
There’s a severe shortage of qualified cyber security professionals. What’s more, the average salary for a CISSP certified professional is now £62,500.
The effect of this shortage means businesses are struggling to implement the security measures needed. A recent study by Cybersecurity Ventures of over 1,000 IT Professionals globally found that IT security managers reported significant obstacles in implementing desired security projects due to lack of expertise (34.5%) and inadequate staffing (26.4%).
4. Four billion people online by 2020 (Microsoft)
Double the current number of people will be online by 2020. As 91% of attacks begin with email phishing (Mimecast), the potential exploitation for hackers here is massive. Avoid social engineering attacks by educating your employees on information security.
More worrying statistics concerning the growing number of employees online and with access to sensitive data, came from AXELOS. They found that 75% of large organisations and nearly a third of small organisations suffered staff-related security breaches in 2015 and 50% of the worst breaches of the same year were caused by human error.
A simple and cost-effective way to test your employees cyber security knowledge is through EC-Council’s Certified Secure Computer User (CSCU) test. This will help benchmark the cyber security awareness and competence of your workforce.
5. 200 billion IoT devices will need securing by 2020 (Intel)
More internet connected devices – from thermostats to fridges - in the hands of the public means more opportunities for hackers to infiltrate home networks.
Take a look at the recent hack of the DNS provider Dyn, which brought down major organisations, as a result of an army of 100,000 IoT devices being hacked. Dyn Vice President Scott Hilton stated that the compromised devices had been hit with the notorious Mirai malware that scans for IoT devices that are still using their default passwords. It then enslaves those devices to a botnet army, which was used to force Dyn offline.
As technology develops and individuals and businesses increasingly adopt these novel technologies, the phrase, “with great power, comes great responsibility” has never rung truer.

3 reasons why tariffs on mexican cars wont solve trumps promise to generate more jobs
President elect Donald Trump has a tough job on this hands. Generating jobs which remains his is principle mandate and the biggest reason he feels he has been elected for will be an enormous challenge specially in the US auto sector. By threatening to levy additional tariffs on cars produced in Mexico, Trump is calling for US car makers to continue to manufacture in United States. However as a recent bloomberg story shows it may be more free trade, not tariffs, that would help the U.S. keep some factory jobs from moving south.
Over the past five years, automakers have rushed to build factories in Mexico. The largest car companies have announced at least $22 billion in investments and about 25,000 jobs at new or expanded plants in Mexico by 2019. And that’s just the jobs that have been made public.
So what do US car makers actually gain to have manufacturing shipped off to mexico before being shipped to be sold to United States ?. Here are 3 reasons why "US car makers are more favorably disposed to Mexico and rather build and manufacture cars there compared to US"
1) Cost of Labor :Cheaper labor is only one reason Mexico has seen a surge in new-car production. While the country’s low wages have been the big attraction, one of its key advantages is that it has is trade agreements.
2)Trade Agreements : Mexico has trade agreements with 44 countries, giving automakers access to half the global car market tariff-free.The U.S. has similar trade deals with just 20 countries, which make up 9% of global car sales, according to the Center for Automotive Research in Ann Arbor, Michigan."It’s pretty ironic that what makes Mexico successful is free trade," said Kristen Dziczek, an analyst at CAR "You can look at the new investment that has gone into Mexico and while a huge portion is for the U.S., they are selling a lot elsewhere, too."
3)Cost Arbitrage :To get a better sense of Mexico’s advantage, consider a $25,000 midsize sedan built and shipped in Mexico with one in the U.S. Automakers can pay.Total hourly compensation in the motor vehicle manufacturing sector is about 80 percent less for Mexican workers compared with that for U.S. workers. Considering assembly time for a typical midsize car, an automaker can save $600 per vehicle on labor costs.( see chart above)
While Infrastructure in Mexico lags behind the highway and rail network in the U.S., so it actually costs automakers $300 more per car in additional shipping expenses to produce the vehicle in Mexico and ship it to Europe, and an extra $900 to ship it to the U.S. That means, even after paying significantly less on labor, a car company is walking away with wage savings of only $300 per car, compared to it being manufactured in the US
Most importantly the bulk of the savings are tied to Mexico’s trade agreements and cheaper parts.Consider this! Automakers can save $1,500 per car on cheaper Mexican auto parts. Certainly, a lot of those savings are tied to the lower wages workers in Mexico are paid. But some of these parts are imported to Mexico tariff-free from countries in Europe and Asia, particularly for the foreign automakers who are increasingly investing in Mexico instead of the U.S. Since the U.S. doesn’t have as many free trade agreements, some of the automakers need would pay extra for some of those parts if they made those models in the U.S which significantly increase the cost of production of cars in United States.

sales charts show how airpods are decimating the traditional headphones
Wireless Headphones Sales vs Corded Headphones |
This chart show how Airpods have dealt a heavy blow to traditional headphones |
The long-awaited AirPods release struck a death blow to traditional headphones as 2016 could be easily be remembared as the year where the headphone buyers cut the cord, as wireless models comprised half of all online headphone sales in 2016.In December last year, a whopping 75 percent of headphones sold online were wireless. It is not coincidental that this was also the month that AirPods launched.
On the December 13, the day when Apple announced the release of AirPods, spending on headphones was ten times greater than the pre-holiday average for 2016. This day was the largest single day of online headphone spending last year.Despite delays, Apple’s AirPods had a great holiday season according to a new report on wireless headphone online spending over the past several weeks. The report from Slice Intelligence–which collects its data from hundreds of millions of anonymized e-receipts–found that the $159 AirPods have accounted for more than a 25% of all online wireless headphones revenue since pre-orders for the product launched on December 2016.
The AirPods pre-order launch was the biggest day for online headphone sales of the year, outpacing sales on Cyber Monday and Black Friday. A major part of this is no doubt related to the fact that the headphones had a pretty limited launch in retail stores due to low supply caused by manufacturing delays

3 Japanese cities among the top 10 most expensive city for expats
The Most Expensive City for the Expatriate Community |
This report published by Bloomberg is compiled by ECA International which compares the global cost of living for expatriates. Those cities all leapfrogged Hong Kong, which edged down to 11th from ninth. Zurich fell from the top spot to third while Geneva fell to fourth from second.New Zealand’s cities are also becoming more expensive, with Auckland now costlier for expatriates than Sydney for the first time since ECA started its rankings.
Singapore remained this year relatively stable at 16th globally, helped in part because ECA estimates don’t include car purchases -- which are more expensive in the city-state than elsewhere because of the cost of the permits needed to own them.
There was better news for foreigners living in the U.S. as several cities remained among the cheaper places to live. St. Louis, Baltimore, Minneapolis, Phoenix, Atlanta and Denver all had rankings in the 90s. Vancouver rose to claim the No. 100 spot. “The relative strength of the Japanese yen in the survey period pushed all Japanese cities above Hong Kong in the rankings,” said Lee Quane, ECA’s regional director for Asia. “For companies bringing talent into Japan, the cost of an assignment will increase as higher allowances are required to maintain employees’ purchasing power."
