Top 5 most influential women in IT


Most influential women in ITComputer Weekly announced the first ever list of the 25 most influential women in UK IT. The winners were announced at an event in the Doubletree Hilton hotel, London, and were selected by a panel of judges made up of employers and IT leaders from the industry. A survey by Industry employment stated that only 18% of the UK IT workforce is female. The following list will show the top 5 most inspirational women from the Computer Weekly list which represents the role models that will be so important to the future success and diversity of the tech community.
5. Jennifer Rigby, CIO, Department of Energy and Climate Change
Rigby started her IT career at organisations such as the BBC, The National Archives and the Home Office. In January 2011, she became the CIO at the Department for Energy and Climate Change. The team that Rigby has lead made the carbon emissions see a reduction of over 20%.
4. Kate Craig-Wood, managing director, Memset; Intellect board member
With her brother, Kate Craig-Wood founded Memset, which has become one of the UK's top cloud and hosting providers. She also co-led the technical strand of the Cabinet Office's G-Cloud and App Store project. 
3. Lesley Cowley, CEO, Nominet
In 2002, Cowley bcame the CEO of Nominet, and is responsible for leading the UK internet registrar. She won the CBI First Women Award for Technology In 2007.
2. Dame Wendy Hall, Professor of Computer Science at University of Southampton
Wendy Hall is one of the founding directors of the Web Science Research Initiative, which launched in 2006. She was awarded a CBE in June 2000 and is also a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering, the BCS, the Royal Society and the Institute of Engineering and Technology. To top it off, in the 2009 UK New Year's Honours list, she became a Dame Commander of the British Empire.
1. Jane Moran, global CIO, Thomson Reuters
Being the global CIO for Thomson Reuters speaks for itself. She manages a global staff of 1,200 and has held several senior leadership roles such as the CIO of Thomson Financial and of CCBN.
