The 2013 Numbers on E-Commerce in the USA | ExportX: "The Census Bureau of the U.S. Department of Commerce reports the value of the overall U.S. retail sector at US$4.5 trillion in 2013, growth of 4.2% on the previous year.
Retail sales up 4.2 percent is healthy economic growth, but it’s dwarfed by the growth in e-commerce, which is growing four times faster. Within the overall U.S. retail sector, retail e-commerce in 2013 grew 17% to $263 billion and is taking an ever-increasing share of the total market. E-commerce represented 5.8 percent of total retail sales in 2013, up from 5.2 percent in 2012.
U.S. e-commerce is forty-times the value of e-commerce in Australia, and around 100 times bigger than e-commerce in New Zealand. To put that another way, achieving a 4% market share in the USA would exceed 100% market share in Australia and New Zealand combined."
